Down and feather fillings: what is the difference?

Down consists of a central axis (rachis) from which originate numerous filaments (barbs) intertwined with each other, forming the ensign.

The rachis in turn is divided into two portions: the calamus, directly embedded in the skin, and

the shaft of the rachis, from which the barbs originate.

The plumage differs from feathers, even the smallest feathers (so-called plumettes), because it has no rachis or vessillus.

It has the shape of a real flake, consisting of a central core (barely sketched calamus) from which the barbs originate. It grows under the neck, under the wings and on the breast of waterfowl.

It is not found in land birds (chickens, turkeys).

Labels:

NOMITE guarantees that the product is made to be mite-proof and can be used by those with dust allergies.

Important information for all those who suffer from household dust allergies: the NOMITE label confirms that you have chosen well.

In fact, feather and down-filled bedding items, while providing favorable thermal and climatic conditions for humans (rapid development of warmth during sleep, and rapid release of moisture during ventilation), create an extremely unfavorable habitat for dust mites, which depend on moisture. The dense weave of the fabric, impenetrable to feathers and down, also provides additional protection against dust mites.

So even for you who suffer from asthma or allergies, there is no reason to give up the comfortable sleep that natural products offer.

OEKO-TEX: ensures the safety and well-being of its users.

The ease of MAINTENANCE, the simple washing rules contained in the label, and the long service life make Molina products an indispensable element for the home and for healthy, physiological rest.

Maintenance is very simple:

  • Frequent washing is not necessary. Instead, it is necessary to shake the garment exposed to the air frequently.
  • Light brushing is recommended. Do not whisk at all, in order not to ruin the fabric and not to break the down and feathers.
  • It is best to entrust the washing to a laundry, given the volume of the garment, following the label instructions.
  • Washing at home requires a large washing machine. Alternatively, you can use the bathtub, using mild detergent and doing repeated rinses until the water is clear.
  • Allow to dry without exposing to the sun or heat sources.
  • Pat the garment with the mando occasionally while drying.
  • When not in use, quilts and comforters are to be stored in their original bag in a dry environment, avoiding the use of plastic containers.

You can wash your quilt or comforter as often as you like-they will not lose the softness, beauty and warming power that made them their choice. The down can be subjected to numerous washings without altering its breathability and properties thanks to the application of an innovative water-repellent treatment that reduces the friction of the feathers, lengthening their life; it also reduces the absorption of moisture during washing, making it easier to dry. This treatment does not alter the natural breathability characteristics of down.
